Sedation

Has a fear of dental treatments kept you away from the dentist? Dental anxiety is common, but not having needed oral care performed can lead to larger, more extensive dental issues. With sedation dentistry, you can receive the dental care you need without stress or anxiety. Mercy Dental offers both oral conscious sedation and nitrous oxide to help our patients relax and feel at ease while we care for their smiles.

Oral Conscious Sedation

If you have moderate to severe dental anxiety, oral conscious sedation can be your best option for relaxation during dental appointments. It is as simple as taking a small pill, but it can allow you to fully feel at ease. This is also a good option for extensive or invasive dental treatments, even if you do not experience anxiety.
Oral conscious sedation allows you to stay awake and conscious but in a very relaxed state. You will be able to ask or answer questions and no breathing apparatus is needed. Some people do not remember their treatment, even though they were awake. However, this is a strong sedative so you will need someone to bring you to and from your appointment for your safety.

Nitrous Oxide

Another sedation option we offer is nitrous oxide. Many people refer to this sedative as “laughing gas” because of its euphoric qualities. Nitrous oxide provides a light sedative, used for those with mild to moderate dental anxiety or longer dental treatments. It is very safe – even children can use this sedative if needed. The effects quickly wear off in a few minutes once you stop breathing in the sedative, so you can safely head home or back to work without the need for assistance.
At Mercy Dental, we want all our patients to feel comfortable and relaxed while in our care. We provide patients rooms with many amenities to promote relaxation, but if more is needed to put you at ease, we have sedation available.
